Thailand is one of those places with reputations that might make you look elsewhere for your next travel adventure.
Or, it might be what puts it on the top of your must-see designated destinations list.
I have never been there, but between my cousin, Fred, who goes there multiple times a year—what exactly does he DO there, anyway?
And my daughter, once went there to catch a dive boat out to the Similan Islands.
It is a place I would like to discover for myself.
Beautiful, mysterious, and yes, in some areas, maybe scary exotic.
Regardless of the movie title, I’m sure Bangkok is no more dangerous than many other places in the world.
Earlier today, I got another email addressed personally to me from Ingrid about our traveling—eating—drinking—adventure seeking TV personality, Anthony Bourdain, as he reports from Thailand.
I have only seen the trailer (below) for the upcoming Bourdain episode, and I have no idea if he is into playing ping-pong, which in Bangkok takes on a whole new meaning.
My virtual travel writer BFF, Leif Pettersen—who doesn’t know me from Adam—once wrote a VERY LONG travelogue about Thailand, and WAY DOWN in his story he mentions someone, who happens to be female—and in this case this was an absolute necessity for the activity involved, was
“ shooting ping pongs into a basket eight feet away”
How this, ah working girl, was accomplishing this feat, well let’s just say she could have exclaimed,
“Look ma…no hands!”
We will just have to see if Tony goes there.
In addition to all that traveling, eating, drinking adventures, he also finds time to blog, his most recent post was on the San Francisco trip that I mentioned last week at this time. You read it, right?
I hope Tony will give me a good glimpse of some of the more interesting areas of Thailand.
Places I probably wouldn’t hit.
While I may call myself a wannabe travel writer, if my travel adventures almost guarantee a lengthy hospital stay or a dose of a super antibiotics, mild and meek just might be my middle name.
