It seems like it was just a couple of days ago, I was ringing the death knoll for the steeps and deep of the fabulous Utah mid-winter powder and extolling the virtues of spring skiing.
Wait…it was just a couple of days ago!
And just when you thought it was safe to stash the snow shovel and dig out the flip flops, the weather fairy delivered a great excuse for not being able to mow the lawn for a little while longer.
We went to sleep last night with a promise of a winter-like dumping of almost two feet of powder up in the Wasatch Range.
Oh yah…time to Kick The Tires and Light The Fires.
Or at least to put some fresh wax on the boards.
Well, it wasn’t quite the big dump we were hoping for, but we drove up–with virtually no traffic and just wet pavement–to our normal winter haunt up Big Cottonwood to Brighton and were pleased to find anywhere from the so-called Dust on Crust, to maybe half a foot of decent powder.
Nice..slap on the boards…time to Turn and Burn.
Getting a few hours on the slopes this close to April Fool’s Day is typically only enjoyed by the skiers and boarders who refuse to make the total transition from winter frolic to summer sports–at least until the neighbors start complaining about the unruly lawn and filthy cars bringing down the already low house values.
Utah must have one of the highest number–per capita–of winter resorts to people of any area I have ventured out in search of the perfect powder to microbrewery ratio.
And speaking of beer…we were, weren’t we…
We discovered a great HOT beer from a local Salt Lake brewery,
called WILDFIRE.
Glorious spring skiing at Snow Basin…fresh powder at Brighton…and a great pale ale to end the day.
One of your best…short, funny, informative, great pix. wifey does read…
